WHAT DO WE DO?
We are always open to suggestions, if you have any ideas for future events, please let us know!
- CONFERENCES: There are numerous paediatrics conferences going on throughout the year. We recently attended the PAEDIATRIC CAREERS FAIR in Birmingham Children's Hospital, which proved a fantastic opportunity to find out more about the specialty. This is an annual event so don’t worry if you missed it this year.
- TEACHING SESSIONS: We are currently planning a paediatrics teaching programme, with both theory and practical sessions.
- ELECTIVES ADVICE: Electives is a highlight of your medical school years, so naturally you want to get as much as possible from your trip! We can offer advice and provide you with some contacts to get you started! We plan to compile a database of paediatrics-related electives for your use.
- BEDSIDE PLAY: This is a NEW scheme to introduce medical students to working with children and their families – it’s not as scary as you think! Students go to hospitals, hospices etc. to play with children who are staying on the wards. Hospital stays can be scary and you can help make their stay less daunting! Starting in 2013!!
- CAREERS INFORMATION: As a society we aim to promote paediatrics as a future career option, whether you have always wanted to be a paediatrician or you’ve never really considered it as an option. This can be via guest speakers, helping you to arrange some work experience or directing you to information sources!
- GRACE RESEARCH FUND: Opportunities for fundraising, helping out at events and for doing some research!
